Wayra Sumacc (Raquel Esquives)

En mi trayectoria como artista el tema de mi obra ha sido siempre construcción de la  identidad, tomada desde diferentes perspectivas, sobretodo en lo concerniente a la identidad  femenina. La mayor parte de mi trabajo lo hago en base a la investigación de restos  arqueológicos y estudios antropológicos. Me interesa encontrar nuevos conceptos de alguna  sociedad o grupo muy reducido o extinto y darle un lugar en el contexto actual.

 He estudiado pintura en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú y Fotografía en el Centro  de la Imagen, Lima. Disciplinas que a lo largo de mi carrera he ampliado con instalaciones y  performances, creando proyectos multidisciplinarios en los cuales un tema es abordado desde  diferentes enfoques.

Along my artistic trajectory, my work has always evolved around one constant theme: the building up of the identity, from different perspectives, and above all the female identity. Most of my work is based on the investigation of archeological remains and anthropological studies. I am interested in finding new concepts from societies, particularly narrow or extinct groups of individuals and give them a space in our current context.

I studied painting and photography, disciplines that I have broadened along my career with installations and performances, creating multidisciplinary projects, approaching subjects from different angles.
